My Small Happiness (2022)

The film was selected as a Semi-Finalist at the New York Animation Film Awards (NYAFA) in 2023 and was selected in competition for the Best Short Award at Cardiff Animation Nights in 2023.

The digital animation is an exploration of the concept a “small but certain happiness”, taken from famous Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. To explore this concept, I took members of my own animation class into a sound booth and asked them individually ‘what brings you happiness in your everyday life?’.

My animation acts an illustration of each answer, sometimes both in a literal sense of what each person does to achieve this happiness, mixed with abstract imagery to reflect the feeling these actions bring them as well as the way it transforms the world around them.

For this piece I focused on mainly using photoshop to create soft lines and added bright colours because I believe this is what reflects happiness best.
